The Venue

Weddings at
Skylands Manor

Skylands Manor in Ringwood is the closest thing New Jersey has to a genuine castle wedding. Built in Tudor Revival style with late Gothic and early Renaissance detailing, the manor sits inside the New Jersey Botanical Garden — a hundred acres of formal botanical landscape surrounded by more than a thousand acres of preserved woodland in the Ramapo Mountains.

For photographs, the combination is unusually generous. Stone architecture, rolling lawns, terraces and verandas, formal garden rooms, an orchard, and Shepherd Lake all sit within the same property. That is four or five genuinely different galleries in one place, which is exactly what stops a wedding gallery from repeating itself.

George Pompilio photographs one wedding per day and personally leads every wedding. At Skylands that means knowing which garden rooms hold light late, how the stonework reads against a low sun, and how to light the interiors so a historic manor feels warm and dimensional rather than dark.

The Property

Where the pictures
happen.

The Manor & Grand Ballroom

Tudor Revival stone architecture with rich historic detail, and a grand ballroom seating up to two hundred and twenty. Twenty-one suites and guest rooms mean the getting-ready spaces are on the property rather than a drive away.

The Formal Gardens

A hundred acres of botanical landscape immediately around the manor — garden rooms, allées, and planting that changes completely across the seasons. Few venues in the region give you this much variety within a short walk.

The Lakeside Chapel & Orchard

Ceremony options include a private lakeside chapel and a setting beneath a canopy of trees along the estate orchard, with panoramic views toward Shepherd Lake.

Terraces, Lawns & Woodland

Stone terraces and sweeping verandas for portraits close to the building, rolling lawns for scale, and over a thousand acres of preserved Ramapo woodland beyond the garden boundary.

Good to Know

Skylands Manor photography
questions.

Do you photograph weddings at Skylands Manor?

Yes. George has photographed at Skylands Manor in Ringwood, New Jersey, and photographs across North and Central Jersey, Long Island, and the greater New York area. One wedding per day, always.

What are the best photo locations at Skylands Manor?

The stone terraces and verandas immediately around the manor, the formal garden rooms, the orchard, and the lawns looking toward Shepherd Lake. The variety is the point — you can build an entire varied gallery without leaving the property.

Is the botanical garden included, or separate?

The manor sits within the New Jersey Botanical Garden, and access terms for the gardens are set by the property and the park rather than being automatic. Confirm exactly which areas your booking includes and whether a separate permission applies, because it changes what the portrait plan can assume.

What is the best season for a Skylands wedding?

The gardens peak from late spring through October, and autumn in the Ramapos is exceptional. Winter shifts the weight to the stone architecture and the interiors, which hold up well with deliberate lighting — but the garden rooms genuinely do not, so a January date should be planned around the manor rather than the grounds.

How far is Ringwood from New York City?

Roughly an hour from Manhattan depending on traffic, in the far north of Passaic County near the New York line. George is based in Brooklyn and photographs throughout the region.

How many hours of coverage does a Skylands Manor wedding need?

Ten to twelve hours, leaning toward twelve. The property has so many usable settings that a rushed portrait block wastes what you came for. See how many hours of coverage you need.
