Bride and groom at the Tuscan Garden, Snug Harbor, Staten Island — George Pompilio Photography
Snug Harbor · Staten Island

A Snug Harbor photographer who
knows the gardens.

Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden is one of Staten Island’s most photogenic wedding settings, and George Pompilio knows how to make the most of it. The Tuscan Garden — with its symmetrical reflecting pools, classical fountain, and manicured hedges modeled on a Florentine villa — is built for portraits. George works the fountain at golden hour, when the low light rakes across the water and the greenery glows.

Beyond the Tuscan Garden, the grounds give one venue a rare range: Greek Revival architecture, rose and white gardens, a Chinese Scholar’s Garden, and tree-lined allées — a completely different backdrop every few steps. For a photographer, that variety means a full, varied gallery without ever leaving the property.

Planning Notes

Shooting a wedding
at Snug Harbor.

A few things worth knowing if you’re planning photography at Snug Harbor.

01
Best light is the hour before sunset

The Tuscan Garden faces the late-afternoon sun, so the strongest portrait window is the hour before sunset. Build your timeline around it and the fountain images come alive.

02
The fountain is the signature shot

The reflecting pools and classical fountain are what make Snug Harbor instantly recognizable. Leave 15–20 minutes there in your timeline so it’s never rushed.

03
The grounds are large

From the Tuscan Garden to the rose garden to the historic buildings, there’s a lot of ground — comfortable shoes and a little travel time between spots go a long way.

04
A custom timeline, every time

George maps a photography timeline for every Snug Harbor wedding so you get the venue’s best light and locations without ever feeling rushed. Brooklyn-based, he’s a short trip over the bridge.
