Twelve acres, and the problem that creates
The Rockleigh is one of Bergen County’s grandest venues — twelve acres of manicured gardens, Italian fountains, a marble staircase in the lobby, garden chapels, and two distinct ballrooms under crystal chandeliers. It gives a wedding more usable settings than almost any property in the region.
Which is exactly the risk. More settings than a portrait block can cover well means the temptation is to sample all of them and photograph none of them properly. The better plan is to pick three in advance — a garden, the staircase, and one ballroom — and work them deliberately.
The fountain and the veil
The garden fountains are the signature setting here, and they suit a long veil more than almost anywhere else on this list. A cathedral-length veil catching air in front of stone and water is the frame couples print largest, and it takes wind, timing and a light in the right place rather than luck.

The gardens are also seasonal in a way the interiors are not. Courtyard and Tuscan Garden portraits are at their best from late spring through October; in winter the marble staircase and ballrooms carry the gallery. Both are good outcomes, but they look different, so plan for the one you are actually getting.
